Call for Applications: Lochac Webwright

In recent times, have you realised how strangely necessary online communications are to our medieval recreation group? Have you found people in your group referencing online resources more often? Do you have an interest in content management and information sharing?

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED BEING THE NEXT LOCHAC WEBWRIGHT?

My term is not up until the end of February, but I would like to spend some time with my successor-as-deputy organising a seamless transition and using the strength of two heads to complete a couple of projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lochac Webwright has the responsibility of overseeing all websites for the Kingdom of Lochac and it’s subordinate groups. This includes Baronies, Shires, Cantons, Hamlets, Colleges, Guilds as well as other Kingdom Officer sites and the Kingdom’s own site. The Webwright also manages our Announcement and Discussion mailing lists and cooperates with the Masonry Team and the Social Media Officer to help provide assistance to all in the Kingdom who need to get their message out.

This does not mean you are required to DO all the things – quite the contrary. The more you can encourage groups, guilds, and officers to have their own webwright the less you need to do personally. Assisting groups to make their workload easier has the side-effect of making it more likely that someone within the group will want to take on the role.

The Lochac Webwright also does not do this job alone: the masonry team includes other word press administrators to manage the ‘back-end’ of our websites so you can focus on content if that’s where your strengths lay.

The sites you will be expected to manage yourself are the Kingdom website, the Kingdom Webwright website, and the Royal website (in consultation with the Crown). All other website work is upon request from the site ‘owner’ and dependent your availability.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL NEED TO:

  • be and remain an adult financial member of SCA Ltd or SCANZ Inc.
  • have reliable email and internet access, and regularly accesses them
  • update the websites you manage and assist other webwrights with their websites as required
  • update the Lochac News page as required by the Crown and Kingdom Seneschal
  • moderate the Lochac Announce and The Shambles mailing lists
  • attend Kingdom Officer meetings (online)
  • collect reports from local groups and report to the Kingdom Seneschal and Society Webminister quarterly
  • work with a diverse group of people in a cordial and collegial online manner
  • other tasks, as become necessary, related to managing and maintaining the web presence of the Kingdom of Lochac.

TIME COMMITMENT
This sounds a lot, but it’s not. There are peaks and lulls in time requirements, but average around 5-10 hours a week at most. Most of that you were doing anyway, reading your email.

HOW TO APPLY
If you’re interested in the role, please send an application outlining your experience, interest, and goals for the role to:
deputyseneschal@lochac.sca.org and webwright@lochac.sca.org

This call for applicants will remain open for the month of September. If you have any questions about the role, please ask.

In service to the Crown and Kingdom of Lochac, always.

Baron Sorle Maknicoll, Lochac Webwright
